| Tiivistelmä: | One of the questions people in Eastern and Central Europe ironically ask is: What is "socialism"? The appropriate answer might be: "It is the longest and most difficult route from capitalism back to capitalism!" Many Eastern and Central European countries and former Soviet Republics have made fairly impressive progress in their transition from central planning towards liberal market economic systems, and large-scale privatisation is considered as one of the most important steps along this very complex and often painful road. |
