Tiivistelmä:As a society Americans are obsessed with time. They have always been so. It's part of their national character. They believe that successful people always have time to do something more, and unsuccessful people never have enough time to do what must be done. They are in a constant race with and against time. Work addiction (or workaholism) is not recognized as a behavioral disorder or a medical disease. It is rather viewed as a malaise or unfocused feeling of mental and physical uneasiness and discomfort associated with work. But the growing body of literature in the social sciences argues that workaholism is an addiction and it fits the standard psychiatric profiles for both dependency disorder and substances abuse.
