| Tiivistelmä: | This article examines the factors influencing both the generation and the distribution of revenues in elite professional football in England and Wales during the period 1927-94. It does so at a time of extraordinary financial dynamism, when the economic importance of professional football in England and Wales has never been greater. The article provides a brief overview of the literature on the economic analysis of sporting league competition and describes changes in the distribution of playing success among clubs within the league. It also considers the extent to which these changes are reflected in trends in attendances and gate revenues. |
