Tiivistelmä:A theoretical and methodological review of the literature essential for the management of eutrophicated coastal ecosystems is presented. A coastal ecosystem is defined and it is argued that coastal ecosystem pollution is characterized by multiple, interacting, heterogenous emissions at different, interdependent locations. Specific attention is paid to the fact that pollutant transports and transformations are stochastic due to variations in weather and other natural processes. Also various methodological aspects are reviewed.
