| Tiivistelmä: | This paper provides a discussion of the relationship btw. environmental (hereafter as: env-al.) and economic performance (here as: perf.) and the influence of corporate env-al. strategy choice on this relationship. After formulating a theoretical model, it reports results of an empirical analysis carried out for the European manufacturing industry, using new data for testing model's hypotheses. Corporate env-al. strategies are identified on the basis of their orientation towards shareholder value. It is found that for firms with shareholder value-oriented strategies the relationship btw. env-al. perf. and different dimensions of economic perf. is more positive than for firms without such a strategy. |
