Tiivistelmä:The paper examines consumer knowledge of the country of origin of purchased products and the impact of the origin for the purchasing decision. Consumers were tested as they left the cash register and asked questions according to their state of knowledge of the productsÂ’ origin. As a result more than 93 percent of interviewed purchasers did not know from past experience nor did acquire during while shopping the origin of the purchased product. Also only 2.2 percent of the purchasers indicated that the country of origin played a role in their product choice. This reveals that the country of origin of products is not an important attribute in the choice process of the great majority of North American consumers.
