Tiivistelmä:This article examines Russian (hereafter as: R./R-n.) 'information culture' (here as: i-c.). It is asked how information (as: i.) is used and shared in R. Although focusing on contemporary R., changes and continuities since the Soviet (as: S.) period are discussed, as well. In the S. Union, i. was considered a privilege rather than a right with secrecy determining the general i. climate. In post-S. R., the right to i. is legally guaranteed, censorship is forbidden, and 'state secrets' are limited by law. However in practice, secrecy and a lack of access to i. is a problem much quoted by journalists and citizens alike. This 'i-c.' is part of mass media environment to work in, and to cope with.
