Tiivistelmä: | Kuala Lumpur is only just getting out of two tragic years in Malaysia's banking history. Now the prices for the country's main export goods are rising, a current- account surplus to be expected in 1987. But the banks have incurred big losses, so they are still making significant loan-loss provisions. Kuala Lumpur is not an international financial center. The market is strongly regulated and there is a positive discrimination in favor of local banks. Only local banks are allowed to open new branches, moreover, multinationals operating here have to channel at least 60% of their borrowing through them. |
