| Tiivistelmä: | The changes in the distribution of unemployment and its differential behavior according socio-economic groups are investigated on empirical basis. Job turnover and the decomposition of unemployment into its frequency and duration is analyzed using the data from the 1983 Labor Force Survey. The effect of age upon duration proved to be larger than has been hitherto recognized. Single men have unemployment rates almost twice the levels of the married men. The variations of unemployment with respect to family circumstances, household size, region, race, occupational category and housing conditions are analyzed, too. Comparisons with the earlier period 1973/1974 are made. |
