| Tiivistelmä: | The difference between the equilibria when firms determine production and sales sequentially, and when they do so simultaneously is examined. When firms serve several markets there is a qualitative difference between these equilibria. This result holds even if marginal production costs are constant. The difference arises when firms account for the output-shifting effect their own production levels have on the allocation decisions of rivals. Conditions under which the two equilibria are different are determined. The direction of change from the simultaneous equilibrium is indicated. Applying the model to reciprocal dumping, the condition reduces to the concavity or convexity of demand. |
