| Tiivistelmä: | The paper gives an overview of the main determinants of transition, paying special attention to the empirical analysis and comparative evaluation of the initial conditions of transition and international competitiveness of the Baltic States. International competitiveness of the Baltic States is evaluated in the framework of transition economies, leading world economies and Baltic Sea region countries using three methodological approaches and various data sources. Baltic States' favorable location, historical and cultural traditions, and market economy experience are important initial conditions as determinants of transition influencing economic development and international competitiveness of these countries. |
