| Tiivistelmä: | This paper studies the National Cooperative Research Act (NCRA). It examines the extent to which NCRA has been able to give American companies engaged in cooperative research and development (R&D) an edge over the competition with foreign companies. In the article, panel data on industry balance of trade and cooperative R&D is studied. The findings of the study indicate that industries involved in cooperative R&D have a significantly higher trade balance than industries without cooperative R&D participants. Higher trade balance may be seen as testimony to improved competitiveness. |
