| Tiivistelmä: | Article analyses the impact of growing competitiveness on decisions concerning layout.There has been a substantial improvement in therms of smaller costs, better quality and bigger flexibility during last three decades.These changes have an important impact on layout decisions.Two mayor problems connected with the layout have rised: - In a functional layout the problem is how to simplify production and achieve shorter lead times. -The problem with production lines is how to increase flexibility.The two usual responses to these problems have been: 1.Introduction of new principles inproduction (Just-in time). 2.Introduction of flexible automation. |
