| Tiivistelmä: | We are in the middle of the greatest wave of mergers in American history,the recent marriage of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas being a good example of this. 1996 has been enormous year for deal-making: more than 10 000 mergers have taken place, with more than $660 billion changing hands. This is the third such wave in the post-war era. This is happening now because the companies don't have any choice, so they are trying to adapt to a new reality. It takes years before we know, if these big deals were successful or not. The risks are strategic, not financial, and they seem worth taking. |
