| Tiivistelmä: | The dream of extending mainframe storage management services to data stored on distributed PCs, workstations and LANs is about to become a reality. The new era's automated workstation-to-mainframe backup process is explained in detail. IBM responded the challenge with a statement of direction for automating enterprise storage management tasks across a wide spectrum of IBM and non-IBM platforms. The first product is expected to be an MVS/ESA-based facility that will automatically manage backup and can archive data from at least three LAN or workstation clients' operating systems. Some vendors offering LAN backups are listed. |
