Tiivistelmä: | Since IBM launched the AS/400 minicomputer in 1988, users have often teamed it up with local area networks (LANs) of personal computers. Drawn by 10,000 applications and heavy-duty peripherals, corporate users have connected nearly 2 million PCs to AS/400s through LANs and individually. The number will likely grow to some 4 million PC clients on the AS/400 within two years. The ways users connect to AS/400s are as divers as their reasons for doing so. Terminal emulation, file transfer and cooperative processing are among the main activities occurring over the wire, and each suggests a different connectivity strategy. Each solution differs in cost, memory use, abling requirements and performance. Various connectivity products are described. |
