| Tiivistelmä: | Some recent advances in bar code technology are reviewed and evaluated. Chief among recent innovations in this technology is the use of improved wireless networks that allow factory, ware house and retail workers to carry handheld scanners and portable point of sale terminals to wherever work needs to be done. These devices communicate via radio frequency signals with host systems or with stationary terminals. ANother advance in bar code technology - long-range laser scanning - could soon bring this technology into new environments. Long-range laser scanner - which read bar codes more than 15 feet away - are valuable anywhere a bar code might be hard to reach. Some recent inventions have improved the bar code itself. |
