| Tiivistelmä: | The East Slovak Steel Works (VSZ) is a surprising success story. But now political pressures could delay restructuring in both the steelmaker and the Slovak economy. Five or six years ago, any Westerner would have pointed to VSZ as a dinosaur, but it has been a leading force behind Slovakia's growth. Now, like Slovakia, it's having to face the prospect of losing its cost advantage. And the worry is that, in choosing between cost-cutting, developing new products and diversification, it's allowing politics to cloud its view of the market. |
