Tiivistelmä:Since the turn of the century, Detroit has dominated the global automobile industry. Today, they are struggling to hold on their dwindling share of the domestic market. The Japanese have established ten automobile plants in North America and hundreds of parts plants. Despite a growing over-capacity problem the Japanese transplants continue to expand, improve the quality of their product with American workers, and increase their market share. The Japanese system has truly revolutionized the automobile industry in the USA and worldwide. The true costs of the Japanese system, both on micro and macro level, are examined along with their benefits.
