| Tiivistelmä: | The UK market of credit and charge cards is divided between the major international credit card operations such as MasterCard and Visa, and the retail cards issued, for example, by Marks and Spencer, Next, Burton Group etc. Both major charge cards, travel and entertainment, American Express and Diners Club are also included in the market survey. The market has been considerably slowed by recession. The total number of cards issued increased by 1 percent to 44.9 billion in 1991. Credit card turnover increased by 7 percent in 1991, compared with 17 percent in 1990. The network of outlets accepting charge cards has fallen since 1989. Visa is the dominant credit card in the UK, with some 60 percent. |
