Tiivistelmä:In recent years, private governance approaches (herein as: apprs.) to promote sustainability have become important. This article focuses on such apprs. involving actors from different parts of the value chain, as well as consumers, labour unions, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Herein, these apprs. are referred to as "certification networks" which aim to realize more sustainable production and consumption patterns from within existing market structures. Referring to private governance debates, this paper proposes to consider structural-material and regulative-normative effects. Taking the broader view, two cases are analysed: The Fairtrade Labelling Organization (FLO) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
