Make-up and colour cosmetics were always traditionally considered to be a premium product among Italian consumers due to the importance of image and looks. The economic recession had a widespread effect on the market, leading consumers to cut back on non-essential purchases. Euromonitor expects the make-up and colour cosmetics market to expand by 13% in real value terms to the year 2001 as image and appearance become ever more important to consumers.
