| Tiivistelmä: | The article seeks to make an empirical contribution to the controversy between neorealism and critical theory. As suggested by critical theorists, the Middle Ages constitute the most important case to support their argument that world politics undergoes fundamental change. Following the critical theorists' lead, this article investigates both the discourse and the practices of feudal Europe in order to determine whether the medieval system differed fundamentally from the modern one. |
