| Tiivistelmä: | Relationships with suppliers are now recognized as an important determinant of a firm's competitive position. This article examines several competing models of these relationships, and does so in an explicitly comparative setting, by examining supply relationships in the US and Japan. The problem of vertical integration is a venerable but increasingly important focus of attention in profit-seeking organizations. One way to compare the performance of cooperative suppliers with in-house operations is to focus on the buyer's choice of assets used to produce the inputs needed for the final product. |
