| Tiivistelmä: | This article considers economic conditions in Russian Federation. The author discusses the phases of privatization of assets in Russia in the mid-1990s and states that Russian companies have taken the initiative in improve corporate governance and shareholder value. He considers the reason for the increased profitability. The author also answers the question why Russian companies have begun buying their own shares and pays an attention to the factor hindering investment in the Russian economy. The paper provides the following insets: 1) Sibneft and the trend towards transparency; 2) Investors band together for protection; 3) Russian companies try to be well behaved; 4) A new breed of industrial group. |
