Tiivistelmä:Except for the metals regulated by the European Union (EU)'s Directive on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), various metals in waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) are rarely assessed due to low data availability. This article presents the results of screening (here as: s-g.) of 36 metals in WEEE using simple assessment methods for cases where the decision makers do not know for which substances in a product countermeasures (here as: c-mrs.) should be taken etc. A case study is set for waste TV sets, revealing which metal in which product module/component should be targeted by environmental c-mrs. Finally, the s-g. results are compared with those of six other methods using diagrams devised to indicate the superiority of s-g. methods, and several s-g. techniques are discussed. It is concluded that the EU RoHS Directive does not necessarily cover all of the toxic metals etc.
