| Tiivistelmä: | The work of 52 middle managers from l6 organisations was studied by interview and observation. The managers' activities were classified as either technical, administrative or managerial. That the features of middle management jobs distinguishing them from senior and junior management are networking, coping with uncertainty and co-ordinating with other departments, is suggested. It is also suggested that many managers fall into the middle management trap of doing too much administrative work rather than taking on more managerial work. |
