Tiivistelmä:As more women enter the ranks of management, the traditional corporate adherence to the masculine sex role stereotype must be questioned. Most of the existing theories of management were developed with male managers in mind. Great man theories, trait theories, behavioural theories are briefly reviewed. Arguments are provided to demonstrate that implementing androgynous management offers both for men and women a positive way to managerial success. Androgynous management is defined as a combination of task-oriented and people-oriented behaviour. For a shift towards this type of management three tasks should be solved: developing appropriate organizational climate, strategic and reward systems.
