Tiivistelmä: | Just as discussions of issues in medical ethics presume a context in which medicine is practiced, so discussions of business ethics presume a context in relation to business. The study of business ethics has presumed that all businesses are sufficiently similar that making distinctions is unimportant. This paper challenges that assumption by explicating different contexts in which a study of business ethics may be pursued and by showing the impact on the subject of business ethics for each context. It does so by suggesting a four-level categorization of types of corporation. Within each category, it examines seven topics: 1) ownership and management; 2) incorporation privileges; 3) profit maximization; 4) management discretion; 5) the wall street rule; 6) contemporary and historical references and 7) implications for business ethics. |
