Tiivistelmä:The author states that the Business Ethics as an academic field and as a management need is here to stay in the United States. Although the crescendo of hype and hyperbole which characterized its coming of age in the late 1970s and the decade of the 1980s has waned, institutionalization of business ethics in the academy and the economy has persevered. Business ethicists in both venues, however, cannot afford to be sanguine. To this day, business ethics courses maintain a precarious hold in the management curriculum of many institutions. In the business realm there is the inevitable temptation to reduce expenditures by downgrading or eliminating business ethics programs and pursuing what are perceived to be less costly and sometimes less ethical business strategies.
