Tiivistelmä:High-profile corporate scandals remind of the 1980s corporate raider scandals, suggesting ethical scandals possibly occuring in waves. Herein, a framework is provided for analysis of this question by suggesting that ethical attitudes may be cyclical about long-term secular trend´s. Some empirical evidence is provided from previously published work for the existence of cycles and a potential mechanism for their propagation, that is, widespread publicity about an especially salient event, e.g. Enron. Furthermore, it is posited that long-run secular trends would be affected through more deliberate, cognitive means, e.g. instruction in business ethics.
