Tiivistelmä: | People can satisfy their desires in two main ways: by production, or by conflict (i.e. by actual or threatened theft, robbery, confiscation, or litigation). Despite its evident importance, only recently has a systematic economics of struggle and conflict begun to emerge. The proposed definition of conflict encompass not only war but also strikes and lockouts, lawsuits, sibling rivalries within families, and redistributive politics. The costs of conflict are summarized. Some examples of conflict models are briefly reviewed. The competition between the technology of conflict and the technology of peaceful production and exchange is discussed. Conflict as an income-equalizing process is identified. |
