Tiivistelmä:As a result of the new economy, the need to understand how intellectual capital affects performance and value is greater than ever. The value of intellectual capital is a company's ability to translate this intangible asset into performance as well as a return in the form of cash flow. In the new economy, investors' expectations of the value of intellectual capital count more heavily toward the future, as opposed to the traditional valuation focus on current performance. Three stages of firm valuation still apply. For the purpose of this article, intellectual capital is defined as a company's ability to perform better than its peers - the source of its competitive advantage.
