Tiivistelmä:This study uses an inaction inertia analysis (hereafter as: i-i-a.) of procrastination (here as: p-n.) to generate the prediction that using bonuses (as: bons.) to encourage early task completion (as: e-t-cmpl..) will have two opposing effects, encouraging early task completion by some but also inducing p-n. for those missing the bonus. It is shown by study 1 that the addition of bons. for e-t-cmpl. produced both of these effects, also leading to overall task completion rates. In the study 2, a lottery methodology was used for manipulating the size of a missed bonus (as: m-bon.) for all participants. Even under these conditions of reduced personal responsibility, the larger m-bon. led to increased p-n. as predicted by the i-i-a.
