Tiivistelmä:The report examines the European retail market for baby care in France, Italy, the UK, Germany and Spain. The period under review is 1992-1996 for current data and 1996-2001 for the future outlook. Germany and the UK are the largest markets with sales of USD 246.7 million and USD 215.6 respectively in 1996. The outstanding growth market in 1996 was Italy, where baby care sales increased by one fifth in real terms. In spite of declining birth rate, the Italian market has been boosted by the dynamism of the wipes subsector and the introduction of products to the mass market which were previously the preserve of the pharmacy channel. Nominal growth in the remaining key markets was limited to single figures, with Germany and the UK posting moderate rates of 6.8% and 6.5% respectively in 1996.
