Tiivistelmä: | Bary Bertiger, a Motorola Inc. engineer, first envisioned the idea for Iridium in 1985, after his wife complained she couldn't reach clients via her cell phone from Bahamas. After the vacation, Bertiger and two other engineers working at Motorola's Satellite Communications Group in Arizona developed the concept behind Iridium -- a constellation of 66 low earth-orbiting (LEO) satellites that would allow subscribers to make phone calls from any global location. |
