| Tiivistelmä: | This article explores the origins of the myth, and develops extensive evidence to make the case that it was Internet managers and managerial systems that were at the root of the Internet meltdown. Four key dysfunctions are identified-misapplication of managerial principles, deficits in managerial experience and expertise, risks in importing senior managers from old economy companies, and breakdowns in corporate governance. In addition, the authors highlight two critical cultural catalysts - the embrace of personal and business failure and the culture of limitless spending - that both exacerbated the failings of dot.com management and were reinforced by the myth of managerial superiority. |
