| Tiivistelmä: | Recent arguments for protection and government assistance are discussed. A framework is proposed for analyzing and determining the merits of arguments for fair trade. Arguments for protection are listed and analyzed together with the criteria they have to satisfy. Static and dynamic forms of fair trade are compared and definitions are presented. Fair trade is described as a competitive process. Equitable treatment is examined as an important aspect of dynamic fair trade. Political and economic background of discrimination is highlighted. The vulnerability of the stability of international exchange to the whims and misconceptions of bureaucrats and politicians is discussed. |
