A lack of consistency among PC software suppliers threatens to undermine the explosive growth of LANs. No two licensing options are alike, and consumers feel bogged down by the fine print. An extremely good insight is needed to see who is using what on the network. The case study of Lotus Development Corp. shows how one can try to solve the problem.
