Tiivistelmä:It is argued in the paper that MacIntyre's virtues-goods-practice-institution schema (MacIntyre 1985) provides a conceptual framework within which organizational virtue (here as: vt./vts.) in general, and especially vt. in business (here as: b./bs.) can be explored. A heuristic device is used to discuss why some bs. protect practices (as: prcs.), develop vts. and encourage the exercise of moral agency in their decision making, while others struggle or fail to do so. As to conventional shareholder-owned capitalist b., both the mode of institutionalization and the environment (as: env./envs.) are shown to be largely antithetical to the development of prcs. Other businesses may meet the necessary internal conditions for the sustenance of practice-like features (as: fts.) but remain dependent on fts. within their envs. There is a participant observation used to show how Traidcraft plc. meets the relevant conditions.
