Tiivistelmä: | Based on a number of high-profile cases of corporate corruption, e.g. Arthur Andersen, Enron, Lucent, and WorldCom, this study develops a process model explaining the escalation of deception in corrupt firms. Organizational complexity is proposed to have an amplifying effect for deception becoming an organization level (here as: o-lvl.) phenomenon. A feedback loop btw. o-lvl. deception and each of the escalation stages positively reinforces the process. Through conceptualizion of corporate deception as a social process, this study contributes to a growing body of research looking beyond 'bad' individuals for the causes of corporate illegality. |
