| Tiivistelmä: | Article explores the interaction between education and public service broadcasting in Ireland and illustrates its multifaceted nature. Research is based on documentary analysis of Irish broadcasting archives, current policies and interviews with leading practitioners. Education seems to be located on the cusp of tensions between the social and political objectives of public service broadcasting and economic reality. The results show how education seeks to resolve these tensions. The study also reveals that education has a vital, but often overlooked role to play in the maintenance of public communication. |
