| Tiivistelmä: | The important but neglected problem of the training and roles of American managers is reviewed. A field study in high-tech firms is presented. The findings suggest that the firms should concentrate on: (1) training their own technical managers for coordinating top management roles; (2) recruit outside technical people and train them for their coordinating top management roles; (3) search for educational programmes that produce managers with both technical and coordinating expertise. |
