| Tiivistelmä: | The controversial and complex area of personal finance, pensions in the UK is overviewed. 10.5 million people belong to occupational schemes, representing 48 percent of the employed work force. Portable /i.e, personal/ pensions regime instituted in 1986, came into force in 1988. Pension planning operates on a very long time scale. Impact has been felt most strongly among new employees and existing employees who become newly eligible to join portable pensions. Only a minority of the 10 percent not joining it are taking personal pensions out of their own, meaning that the majority are automatically falling into State Earnings Related Pension Scheme /SERPS/. Tables show individual pension business by insurance companies, methods of investment, etc. |
