Tiivistelmä:Employee stock ownership plans /ESOPs/ have entered the mainstream of American business. Last year companies borrowed a record USD 25 million for ESOP. Companies are increasingly finding a valuable dividend in the process: that employee participation can work well with employee ownership. Some 10,000 companies with more than 10 million employees now have ESOPs. Employees hold half or more of the stock at 10 to 15 percent of ESOP companies. For most employee-owners, ESOPs seem to be just an added benefit, like a pension. The most common formal model of employee-management cooperation are employee participation groups /EPGs/, whose members may be elected or volunteers. EPGs are forums for employee input in decision-making.
