Tiivistelmä: | The Pacific Rim extends over one-fifth of the earth, embraces nearly one-sixth of its population, and is characterized by a wide diversity in size and population density, natural endowments, state of development, race, religion, language, script, culture, and isolation from and proximity to world population centers. Using the concepts of the product cycle, comparative advantage of natural resources, labor cost and export-import ratios, the cascading of technologies from the highly industrialized nations to the less developed countries is traces. The resulting structural changes are demonstrated by countries which are representative of both particular groups in the region and various stages of development. |
