Tiivistelmä:The small country assumption is routinely used in theoretical investigations they are however not corroborated by economic findings. Price elasticities of export demand usually fall in the -1,0 -0,5 range. The article suggests an alternative test of the small country assumption based on the inverse form of the demand function. Three conditions of a country being small are investigated: whether export prices match world prices; whether export prices are invariant to the quantity exported; whether fluctuations in world income have significant influence on export. None of the conditions could be rejected for Korean export of machinery and transport equipment.
