Tiivistelmä:Article is divided into three parts: in the first part author defines the notion of investment funds, in the second part portfolio management is analyzed, while in the third part some specific questions of managing investment funds are discussed.Investment funds can be divided into two major groups: mutual funds and investment companies.Both are managed by managing companies.Portfolio management is based on risk and expected returns that both have to be taken into account while estimating the investment fund performance as in CAP model.Factors that are instrumental in portfolio management are: portfolio selection, diversification, fund leverage, specialization and the size of funds, timing and hedging.The part on managing investment funds refers to the relationship between managing companies and investment companies, to costs and fees of managing investment funds and finally, to investment funds and financial market.
