| Tiivistelmä: | The paper provides a brief statistical picture of the size and extent of the IMF's operations in the late 1990s, and also identifies recent trends in the pattern of Fund lending, examines the IMF as crisis averter, as crisis lender, and as a crisis manager. The analysis in this paper suggests that there is a case for redefining its role and ensuring that it has both the appropriate organisational structure and the resources necessary to perform it. |
