| Tiivistelmä: | The European presence in the major countries of Pacific Asia is examined, and compared with that of the US and Japan. The criteria of levels of cumulated direct capital invested in the productive sectors and of flows of exports to a country are used for the analysis. The weakness of Europeans is highlighted. Possible external causes described include the formation of the EEC, the political situation in the Far East, the attractiveness of the large and sophisticated US market, and the export opportunities in Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe, and in the Middle East. Internal personnel, strategic and political causes are also examined. Challenges for Europe are summarized. |
